NEMA Ratings and IP Protection Equivalency
The following table provides a comparison between NEMA enclosure ratings and their approximate IP (Ingress Protection) equivalents. NEMA ratings define environmental protection for electrical enclosures mainly in North America, while IP ratings are defined under IEC standards and widely used internationally.
Although direct equivalency does not always exist, this reference table helps engineers and designers select suitable enclosure protection levels based on environmental exposure such as dust, water, corrosion, and outdoor conditions.
Important Note: NEMA and IP ratings are defined by different standards and test methods. This table is provided for reference purposes only. Final enclosure selection should always be verified according to project specifications and environmental conditions.
